CONSENT - be INFOrMED: the medico-legal distance learning course on consent to treatment.
The overall aim of the course is to provide you with the necessary knowledge of the law concerning consent to treatment, with the objective of reducing the possibility of litigation claims being brought against you.
Accredited by the Royal College of Nursing Accreditation Unit until June 2007.
Successful students will receive 11 study hours from the RCN, 4+ CE credits from NATN and 15 credits towards a Health Law LLM from Nottingham Trent University’s Law School.
It specifically provides information about:
- the current law surrounding patient consent to treatment
- the consequences of not obtaining patient consent to treatment
- the issues surrounding minors and their consent to treatment
- the treatment of patients who are lacking capacity
- the ethical issues surrounding the use of new or experimental treatments
- end of life decision making

The law surrounding consent to treatment is constantly being ruled on by the courts and the information contained in this course is regularly updated to reflect the current legal decisions and principles. As a student, you will be informed of any updates made to the course material. The registration fee is £255 plus VAT. This includes access to the course material and the examination fee.
